A Registered VT Icelandic Breeding Ewe Lamb sitting among trees

Registered Vermont Icelandic Breeding Ewes

We have diverse genetics including some of the newest and highest rated AI genetics coming out of Iceland. We have chosen the best of the best to remain here on the farm for our breeding flock. We keep and breed only the most parasite resistant breedstock on our farm. Please contact us if you would like to consider reserving lambs for the next season.

A VT Icelandic Breeding Ram sitting among the trees

Registered Vermont Icelandic Breeding Rams

We focus on breeding for parasite resistance first as that quality affects all others in our opinion. From there we look at pairing rams with ewes for solid conformation, quality fleece, and good growth rates in their lambs. We keep and breed only mild mannered and easily managed rams on our farm as these traits are often heritable.

A mama Scottish Blackface/Vermont Icelandic Sheep Cross with a baby on her back

Scottish Blackface/Vermont Icelandic Sheep crosses

We have a few purebred/registered Scottish Blackface ewes that we breed with our Vermont Icelandic Rams for meat lambs each year. These pairings offer hybrid vigor, unique sheepskin pelts, and often slightly heavier lamb weights at the late fall harvest time. Although not quite as "ancient" as the Icelandic sheep, the Scottish Blackface is also known for its hardiness, its dexterous ability to navigate hilly/mountainess landscapes while browsing brush and woody forage, great mothering ability, and intelligence. We have found this to be a great pairing for our farm!

Irish Dexter Cow and calf in the pasture with Cynthia and Chris

Irish Dexter Cows

We raise registered and 100% grass-fed Irish Dexter cows for beef and milk. This heritage breed of cow is generally considered a dual purpose breed as they offer well-marbled and fine textured beef, as well as delicious milk with high butterfat content. Their size allows for easier management and less impact on the land. They graze well with our Icelandic sheep and are wonderful to work with and be around on a daily basis.

We are training our cows as small homestead/family milk cows with the focus on calf sharing so calves get plenty of mama’s milk to grow well and the family gets plenty of milk for yogurt, cheese, heavy cream, and more. We think Irish Dexters are the perfect homestead cow whether for beef, milk, or both!
